Equality Information at Warter

Warter C.E. Primary School is proud to be a fully inclusive school where everyone is welcome and encouraged to be the best they can be. We are committed to promoting equality and diversity for all our pupils, parents and staff. We make sure that we consider equality and the possible implications for all pupils and especially those with protected characteristics.

We expect all members of our community and everyone who enters our school to behave in a way which respects the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.

Warter School is committed to ensuring equality of provision throughout the school community. To achieve this, our equality objectives (2024-25) are as follows:

Objective 1: 

To raise equality awareness with children and staff, ensuring tolerance and respect towards individuals who identify with any of the protected characteristics.

Objective 2: 

To tackle discrimination through the positive promotion of equality, by challenging bullying and stereotypes and by creating an environment which champions respect for all.

Objective 3: 

To further educate and support inclusivity and diversity through a range of planned half-termly texts for each year group.

Promoting the Protected Characteristics at Warter

We work to ensure that our children understand that:

The Equality Act became law in 2010. It covers everyone in Britain and protects people from discrimination, harassment and victimisation. Everyone in Britain is protected. This is because the Equality Act protects people against discrimination because of the protected characteristics that we all have. Under the Equality Act, there are nine Protected Characteristics:

1. Age
2. Disability
3. Gender reassignment
4. Race
5. Religion or belief
6. Marriage or civil partnership
7. Sex
8. Sexual orientation
9. Pregnancy and maternity

At Warter, we actively promote these in our curriculum and work to embed them into our ethos.

Under the Equality Act you are protected from discrimination:

• When you are in the workplace
• When you use public services like healthcare (for example, visiting your doctor or local hospital) or education (for example, at your school or college)
• When you use businesses and other organisations that provide services and goods (like shops, restaurants, and cinemas)
• When you use transport
• When you join a club or association (for example, your local rugby club)
• When you have contact with public bodies like your local council or government departments.
