Worship at Home
Autumn 2 2025
Compassion
This half term, our school value is compassion – showing kindness, care, and understanding to those around us. Compassion is at the heart of the Christmas story. Christians believe that God showed great love and compassion by sending Jesus into the world as a baby, bringing hope, peace, and joy. The story reminds us of people who acted with compassion too: the shepherds who welcomed Jesus with warmth, the wise men who travelled far to bring gifts, and Mary and Joseph who cared for their new child with love and courage.
Compassion is also a key Christian value. Jesus taught people to look after others, especially those who are lonely, struggling, or in need. At Christmas, Christians try to follow his example by giving, helping, and showing kindness.
As a school, we will explore what compassion looks like in our daily lives—through our words, our actions, and the way we treat one another. We hope our pupils will feel inspired to show compassion both in school and at home throughout this festive season.
Children will be learning in school how people around the world show compassion to others at this special time of year. We will be learning about important charity work including ‘Operation Christmas Child.’ If you would like to learn more at home please follow the link below.
Dear God,
Thank you for the Christmas story and the love it shows.
Help us to be compassionate like Jesus—
kind, caring, and ready to help others.
Teach us to notice when someone needs a smile,
a friend, or a helping hand.
May our school be a place of warmth and kindness
as we share compassion this Christmas time.
Amen.
Autumn 1 2025
For Autumn 1, our half-term value is Generosity, a theme that beautifully leads us into the spirit of Harvest and our upcoming collection for the local food bank. During this term, our value and prayer space activities will focus on raising awareness of food injustice around the world. We will be sharing the story of Tamar, a young girl from Syria, to help pupils understand the challenges faced by many and inspire compassionate action. Alongside this, we have included suggested prayers centred on generosity and a deeper understanding of global injustice. This focus builds on our previous year’s discussions about being courageous advocates—encouraging pupils to educate themselves and others about injustices and to stand up for positive change in our wider community and beyond.
